Keeping it Real

I love drawing food, especially bakery! I will try to include a cookie, donut, or croissant into most of my still life drawings. I enjoy drawing all of the details and textures. I have been working on this drawing since the end of November. I think I’ll call it something really original like “Christmas Tea & Cookies.” I always draw from a photo reference and all of my drawings are created upside down. Meaning that I turn my paper and the reference photo upside down and draw it that way. It is a trick I learned in art school many years ago and I cannot draw any other way now. This is how I get my baked goods to look real. By viewing them upside down they are no longer cookies with candy cherries on top but a series of shapes, colors, lines and forms.
